Garden Volunteers' Day

Every Tuesday from 10.00am in the Plants On Plates Community Garden. Travel expenses paid. Please phone the garden manager Jeff Hughes on 0151 639 2121 or email info@la21.net for further details.

Other community allotments currently running are:

Wednesday Mornings 10am - 1pm, in the walled garden at Central Park Wallasey.
Woodchurch Community garden - a garden outside the Library and Ganneys Meadow Early Learning Centre. Planning sessions are held at the Methodist Centre on the last Thursday of the month 3-4pm and the work changes monthly.

Or if you are in the Tranmere area, why not drop into Tranmere Alliances allotment, details from their office on Church Road.

Ness Gardens

Ness offers short courses and workshops both themselves and in partnership with the University of Liverpool Continuing Education Department and the Welsh College of Horticulture.

Thursday 1st October (14.00 16.30) 6 Weeks
Design Patterns & Imagination

This course will explore different ways of interpreting the natural forms around us at Ness, using watercolour and mixed media techniques. Emphasis will be placed on developing confidence, personal style and enjoyment. No experience necessary. Please bring watercolour sketchbook and paints.

Gardening Club

Ideal for gardeners of all experiences.
These informal monthly meetings will look at all the seasonal jobs in the garden through demonstrations, talks, walks and practical activities out and about in Ness Gardens. In addition, this month we will look at essential lawn maintenance

Friday 9th October (10.00 -16.30)
Say No to Auto: A Course for Inquisitive Digital SLR Owners

Learn to take control of your digital SLR with tuition from an award winning professional photographer. This course is aimed at owners of digital SLR cameras who want to move away from the automatic settings. You will need an SLR type camera and lens, a tripod, outdoor clothing and something to kneel on!

Plant Introductions from Abroad

Our gardens are filled with exotic plants many of which have reached our shores through the endeavours of adventurous men and women who travelled the world in search of new lands. Broadening our knowledge of the countries they visited, we will look at the history of plant exploration and detail the lives of those involved.

Monday 2nd November (10.00 16.00) 2 Weeks
China A Floral and Cultural Exploration

The development of plant hunting and how the opening up of modern China to western botanists has contributed to the impact of Chinese flora on our gardens. In addition, the course will look at Chinese ink painting, Chinese culture and festivals. A Chinese lunch will be available for course participants on Monday 9th November at an additional cost of £9.50 per person. Please book and pay for this meal when you book a place on the course.

RHS Outdoor Food Crops

Food has been grown for thousands of years; the potato was cultivated in South America over 7000 years ago. Discover how to grow your fruit & vegetables.
Perfect for gardeners with some experience wanting to expand their knowledge or an ideal first qualification for those wishing to pursue a career in horticulture
